Giving Thanks

This morning, I was listening to the radio, and a woman was talking about all of the reasons to be grateful if you are single at this time of the year. “Hmm”, I thought, “this is a new perspective!” I mean, normally, this is the time of year we begin to hear all about the hardships and depressing points of view around “being alone” during the holidays. This person shared a pretty extensive list of why it’s great being unattached and free to make independent choices at this time! It reminded me of the beauty and power of perspective. What we experience in life is merely our way of looking at what is happening within our vision of the world.

So, as we sit down with others (or alone) to give thanks for all that we are and all that we have, it is important to bear witness to the perspective that we are holding within these thoughts of gratitude. Are we grateful that we are not starving and penniless, or do we find ourselves feeling grateful that we have the opportunity to have this human experience at this time in history? The language and way in which we phrase our thanks can tell us a lot about our individual perspective and the lens through which we view our life. Again, what we experience is the manifestation of the viewpoint that we hold. “What is” is what we think it to be.

Today, I give thanks that I have the awareness to see what I see and honor the process of all things in my life. I am grateful for the people who come in and out of my experience and support the teaching of the lessons I am meant to learn.

I hope that you are able to have a wonderful, happy and healthy Thanksgiving, and that part of you giving thanks breeds a new awareness of your approach to all things in your life. I also hope that this learning can help you to better reach what is truly fulfilling for you right now.
